WHat to expect

LIVE Tryout Schedule

AUDITION APPEARANCE: Please wear all black attire for both days: crop/sports bra style top, booty shorts (not high-waisted), white sneakers or cheer shoes and jazz shoes. Outfits may be embellished with stones, sequins, etc. No tights, tattoos must be covered, no piercings (only stud earrings). Hair must be down with full makeup performance ready. Please arrive as you would look for a Game Day. We want to be able to imagine you in our uniform! Reference our social media for makeup and hair styles.

REGISTRATION

Candidates will receive a number that they will wear both days of the audition weekend. Please provide a current headshot upon check-in (this will not be returned).

FIRST DAY

We will begin with technique and across the floor. We will observe flexibility (splits, kicks), turns, leaps, extensions, power. Judges look for dance technique as well as performance and athleticism. Dancers will then learn a jazz routine and pom routine. This choreography may be performed in small groups, with a chance for semi-finalist to take home the choreo to practice and perform again for judges the next day.

SECOND DAY

Dancers will be divided into small groups of 3-4 to showcase splits, kicks and perform both routines back-to-back. It is highly recommended to watch video performances on our YouTube to gain awareness of Hurricanette "dance style" and to have an idea of pom choreography.

CUTS/INTERVIEW

Please dress in business attire and be prepared to present yourself in a professional manner. Judges value appearance and honesty when evaluating potential members.

Tryouts last as long as it takes the judges to make their decisions. We hope to be done by 7:00 PM, but be prepared for an earlier or later finish. Please bring snacks and water to help get you through the long day of auditions.

The selected squad members will be announced online that evening with an email invitation to join the new Miami Hurricanettes!

Please email txg554@miami.edu with any clarification inquiries on audition expectations.
